Bio
Growing up as a bedroom performer, teaching herself instruments and writing music in the safety of her room, McKinley began her artistic career with one YouTube video. Shortly after her debut cover song, she began premiering her original acoustic pop music at local venues in the Wilmington, Delaware area. A local booking agency took her under their wing and introduced her to a team that would aid her in the recording and production of her first EP, Empty Spaces, which she released at the age of seventeen.
After graduating high school, McKinley went on to study for a degree in music education with a concentration in choral music. During her studies, she continued to write music and perform, but she dedicated most of her time to her choir. Studying classical voice and singing advanced choral repertoire, McKinley developed her vocal technique and harmony mastery, a skillset that would later stand out in her original music. With her choir, she traveled the world, seeing countries she never imagined visiting and connecting with others through music when language failed. At the age of 21, McKinley touched down in Valencia, Spain. It was the start of a new chapter in her life and also for her music. She found herself collaborating with musicians from around the world, of all genres, and was exposed to the power of electronic sound design. With the ability to create whatever sound she imagined in her head, through the use of synthesizers and sampling, her music developed from acoustic singer-songwriter to electro-pop with jazz-inspired harmonies and hip-hop-inspired beats. Her music now features thick vocal harmonies, reminiscent of her upbringing in choir, accompanied by warm melodies and sweet lyrics. You’ll find her voice warped, reversed, and affected to be used as an instrument throughout her productions. Her second EP, It’s All Faded, was released a year after moving to Spain and was characterized by her new electro-pop sound. Since the release of It’s All Faded, McKinley has found herself writing in her room again, with just vocals and guitar to channel her ideas. She’s currently producing a string of singles that tell stories of her life in Spain. Her new project reaches a deeper meaning of expression, lying in the sweet spot between her acoustic roots and her new artistic voice. |
